Want more info? Want BF3 for free?

With EA and DICE creating three new Battlefield installations (BF: Bad Comapy for console only, Heroes, and BF3) there is much anticipation for the gaming future. GameStrafe http://www.gamestrafe.com is giving away 10 copies of Battlefield 3.

See here for more information

Battlefield Bad Company Xbox 360 Beta
Although this is not Battlefield 3, Bad Company has the technology in common with BF3. The Frostbite engine can already show what it has under it's hood, and that in a DX9 environment.

Here the official announcement:

Attention All Battlefield Soldiers!

We are recruiting for an exclusive Battlefield: Bad Company beta.

The beta will be available on Xbox 360 and downloaded through Xbox Live Marketplace.

The beta will give you a first look at two multiplayer maps, Ascension and Oasis.

We have a limited amount of beta codes available so enlist now, by sending an email to battlefieldbeta@ea.com

Xbox Live Gold Account required to play the beta.

So if you got an Xbox 360 and can't wait to play the next Battlefield, this might be a good snack for the wait till then.

...I might consider getting a 360 for this and for GTA4 but if there is gonna be a GTA release for the PC then fuhgeddaboudit PC for ftw!

Battlefield 3 details
* Release in late 2008
* Powered by Frostbite DX
* Set in year modern day (just like BF2, ed.)
* Will ship with 8 maps, each supporting up to 40-players per team
* Two playable factions, NATO and MEC (Middle Eastern Coalition)
* Same ticket-based gameplay style as before
* Maps are mostly urban, based in Middle East
* Squads and Commanders are present, introduced are Battalions which consist of three to four squads.
* Five playable classes; Sniper, Assault, Engineer, Medic and Support
* Will feature 48 different vehicles (24 for each faction)
* Will feature 34 different weapons (17 for each faction) and another 22 unlocks (for both factions), in total 56 different weapons.
* Other unlocks include different types of ammunition, body armor, helmets, camouflage and accessories.
* Possible public beta in Summer 2008
* Online stats tracking, awards and real world ranks
* Soldier feature, looks like MMO-styled characters and avatars
* Ranked servers will be available for resellers weeks before the game ships (for testing, apparently, ed.)
* In-game replay and recording feature
* VoIP, friends list, in-game IM-client and extensive clan support
* Built-in auto software updater (no more patches!, ed.)
* Widows Vista and OS X (no XP?!, ed.)
* Announcement and teaser trailer in January 2008.
* A map is mentioned by name, called Baghdad Burning, and appears to be a massive urban map, similar to BF2's very popular Strike at Karkand. The game is powered by Frostbite DX, currently the Frostbite engine is used in Battlefield: Bad Company on PS3 and Xbox 360. The DX could refer to DirectX (10?), a PC version of the Frostbite engine.

Criterion Games working on a Need For Speed game wasn't the only surprising bit of news that Electronic Arts chief operating office John Pleasants tucked into his presentation at the William Blair Growth Stock Conference I listened to today. Pleasants confirmed he's seen DICE's work on Battlefield 3.

"I've had the luxury of looking at Battlefield 3 over at DICE in Sweden and was highly impressed by the way the team is working on that product," he said. "Of course, that's not [coming out] in the fiscal year, but that is a product that is looking very good."

Gamers worried that Battlefield: Bad Company, Battlefield Heroes and Battlefield 1943 were a three-pronged answer to fans demanding a third Battlefield don't have to worry. Battlefield 3 is coming!

I know! I saw this on digg the other day. It does look good. I like the idea of team-squad based fighting. Sounds like fun. I hope they still keep Conquest mode in. Oh and I hope they leave the Stats API open.

Conquest is still a game mode, can't get rid of that, that's the most popular, squad mode does look cool though :D

The joke here is you wont be able to tell the difference between the beta and the final version.

In all serious I would be preordering more games if the beta were offered for free up till the release of the game. Right now I have no faith in EA to release a finished product. I'm still not happy with how BF2 is.
